"When you are inspired by some great purpose, all your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be"
- Patanjali (c.200bce), India

When painting non representational, abstract, contemporary art I find a freedom of expression which I do not experience otherwise. This medium allows me to live, if for a short time, in a world of colors which I find joyful and alluring but do not incorporate into my daily surroundings. For instance I would never wear red, orange, magenta, purple and lime green all at one time, nor would I paint my house in those colors even though I find them to be glorious, delicious and juicy. On canvas I am free to smear and smush them around, over, under and juxtaposed to one another, to try an infinite number of shapes, scribbles . When it all finally coalesces into a pleasing, engaging painting, I have stretched and expanded my limitations.
